Can the Windows Media Load Simulator be used to test multicast streams coming from a Media Server? Or are these not accessible to the tool when it's being configured?
This may seem unusual, as I understand that the number of users connecting to a multicast stream has little bearing on the media server. So I understand why this tool is aimed at unicast streams.
However, we'll only have multicast streams, and I still need some way of requesting the stream from a client. We may be testing up to 300 concurrent streams; so even though they're multicast, that would still effectively be 300 requests.
The Windows Media Load Simulator does not support multicast due to the actual nature of multicast. Essentially you would have to have multiple client IP's. The real load is not on the server as you stated, but on the router/switch that maintains
the IGMP group. To do that properly you'd essentially need to use different machines.
